  • Hello!

I'm Pietro, a student of the faculty of Engineering of the Telecommunications of the University La Sapienza in Rome.

I need to know, for my work of thesis, if exists a program of simulation for a network LTE in a mobile environment.

I would simulate the performances of the LTE technology  for the users on board of a high speed train.

I tried to use OPNET MODELER, but this tool not support the handovers and so I can't use this for mobile UE.

    Thanks for the attention.

    Regards.

  • I haven't heard of simulator available for commercial / educational use. All simulators are rather written by companies for internal usage. Perhaps it would be a good idea to contact such a company (Nokia Siemens Network, Ericsson) and offer them a free apprentice - you could access such a simulator that way.

  • As this is very early stage for LTE, and companies are even building the solution to make business, its really not feasible to get open source simulator like GNS3 or Network simulator at this point of time.

The mobility events which you are talking about is a very simple scenario in the LTE (As if a person with UE is in the train and moving towards several different eNB, MME, and SGW), Deployment companaies will pay millions of dollars for the same event and their performance measurement.

Please let me know as well, if any of the open source tool simulated the mobility, QoS and other 3G, 4G parameters.

I work for IxLoad testing and it has the EPC solution available. I would be really great to test the same against some other tool.

    Thanks

  • Hi Pietro,

The Vienna university of technology is developing a LTE system-level simulator which is available on their website.

The simulator is offered for free under an academic, noncommercial use license here : http://www.nt.tuwien.ac.at/about-us/staff/josep-colom-ikuno/lte-simulators/

I'm not sure it handles handover but you should definitely take a look at it!

    Regards,
