Long Term Evolution (LTE) is able to deliver significantly higher data rates to mobile subscribers at a lower cost per bit to wireless operators, due to its superior radio technology and Internet Protocol (IP) based packet architecture. Over time, LTE systems are expected to supplant and replace existing 2G and 3G wireless networks, such as GSM/UMTS and CDMA2000; however, in order to do so, LTE must also be capable of delivering high-quality and high-capacity voice services, which is a challenging task in packet networks. Voice over LTE (VoLTE) provides a standardized and simplified voice solution that can be deployed in any LTE network. This seminar describes the key characteristics of VoLTE, and walks the participants through typical VoLTE calls to illustrate how voice services can be provided in LTE networks.
